The month-long Amar Ekushey book fair, a yearly event of booklovers and publishers, will begin on 2 February instead of 1 February as elections to two Dhaka City Corporations will be held on 1 February, reports UNB.
Habibullah Siraji, director general of Bangla Academy, said that it has been informed from the prime minister’s office this afternoon that the prime minister will inaugurate the fair on 2 February.
On Saturday, the Election Commission took the decision to defer elections to both Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) from 30 January to 1 February amid widespread criticisms and movement by a group of Dhaka University students as the elections coincides with Saraswati Puja, one of their major religious festivals of Hindu community.
